PostSubject: The Fallout 3 Thread   Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:28 am

So the game is roughly 12 days away and I'm freakin' stoked. I'm going to pre-order the collectors edition on monday and get all my homework for the week done the day before.

Am I a little pathetic getting this worked up over a video game? Perhaps...

But just check out THESE and tell me the game doesn't look amazing...

I found this video. It gives a back story to the entire fallout franchise and what it drew inspiration from initially (from the cold war and such.) Anyways, it's a pretty cool little video, I'd highly recommend watching it even if you don't plan on getting the game.

So I was playing...and I now have a companion traveling with me...he's a nine foot tall super mutant who developed something resembling a brain...oh yeah...and he has a really big frickin' gun.

Things just got alot easier to say the lease.

In an effort to stimulate my thread, I'm just posting a few pictures of my character. Scott if you'd like to post some, press the print screen button on your keyboard and the pics go into your fallout 3 director. You can e-mail them to me and I'll host them if you'd like.

Nice pics, hat + glasses = awesome character. Sorry for the lack of posting, but I've only put about 20 minutes into Fallout. I left the bomb shelter and roamed around a bit, but so far the world has not sucked me in. Part of the reason is my video game time isn't that high, so I don't have the 8 hour sessions that made Oblivion so awesome for me. Herfi recently started playing Call of Duty, which means that I've started playing Call of Duty. I'm also still playing FFTactics...that game just won't let me go. Unfortunately, Fallout is not high on my list at the moment.

David is still playing it quite a bit as far as I know. I'll keep bugging him to post on here about his experiences.

So I found out a cool thing today...

You know all they hoops we had to jump through to be able to get your computer to run Fallout without the disk Scott?

Yeah, completely unnecessary.

In the fallout directory there are two executable (exe) files. One is Fallout3Launcher.exe the other is just Fallout3.exe.

The launcher has a disk check but the other one has none...so if you just make a desktop shortcut to the fallout3.exe it boots up without the CD.

No daemon tools or fixed executable involved...it's just that easy.

Yeah, just thought I'd share cause I found that interesting...back to your normally scheduled lives now.

Well, that's kinda cool. Makes stealing the game that much easier. For the record, if I play 20+ hours of it, I'll go buy a copy.

I kinda saw it as an F-You button to the publisher (it's not as though they are going to drop bethesda from their lineup you know) I mean...there's no way they could be so careless unless it was a intentional work around... mostly because it's a proven fact that games get better performance if they aren't burdened with a disk check.
